Creating a homework task
- Go to Homework → New Task.
- Select the class section and subject.
- Enter the homework title (e.g. "Maths, fractions worksheet, pages 14–16").
- Enter the description, full instructions, resources needed, and any parent guidance for supervising the work at home.
- Set the due date.
- Optionally upload an attachment (worksheet PDF, audio clip, image).
- Click Assign to Class.
The homework task immediately appears in the parent portal under each child's Homework tab, with the due date highlighted. Parents receive an in-app notification.

How parents engage with homework
From the parent portal, parents can:
- Read the task description and download any attached worksheet
- Mark the homework as Done at Home (a simple checkbox)
- Add an optional note (e.g. "She struggled with question 4, she needs more practice with mixed fractions")
- Upload a photo of the completed work (optional)
This does not replace bringing the physical homework to school, it is a communication layer so the teacher knows in advance how each child got on.
Marking homework in class
- Go to Homework and click the task.
- The class list shows each student with: Done at Home status (checked/unchecked), parent note, and a Marked column.
- After marking the physical homework in class, click Mark as Marked for each student or use Mark All at the top.
- Optionally add a teacher note per student (visible to parents: e.g. "Good effort on questions 1–3. Review question 4 with your child.").
- The parent sees the "Marked" status and any teacher note in their portal.
The parent note is gold. A parent who says "he couldn't do question 4" is telling you exactly where to start your next lesson. Check the parent notes before class so you can group students with the same sticking point and address it together.
Homework completion report
- Go to Homework → Completion Report.
- Select the class section and a date range.
- A table shows every homework task with: percentage of students who completed it at home, percentage marked, and count of parent notes received.
- Consistently low completion rates on a particular subject may indicate that the homework is too difficult, or that parents in the class need more guidance on how to help.
Homework completion in School Vault is a communication tool, not a scored assessment. Homework marks do not contribute to CA1/CA2/Exam totals unless you manually incorporate them into your CA scores. This is intentional, it avoids penalising children in low-support home environments.
